Havlabar: Little Armenia on the Hill

Havlabar (Avlabari) district in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi.  In past it was mainly inhabited by Armenians. There are several Armenian churches located there, Armenian Theater and Armenian Pantheon of Tbilisi.


The Church of the Red Gospel (Karmir Avetaran Yekeghetsi, Karmir Vank) - Armenian church built in XVIII century, destroyed in 1989.


Armenians are the second largest ethnic minority in Tbilisi (7,6%) and third in Georgia (5,7%, 2002 census)


Today Armenian population worldwide is estimated to be 10-11 millions. Approximately 3 millions live in the Republic of Armenia.
